Retacrit® (Epoetin Alfa-epbx) Injection Therapy

Treatment for Anemia Caused by Chronic Kidney Disease, Chemotherapy, or Other Conditions

Clearwell Infusion Centers offers Retacrit injections in a safe, comfortable outpatient setting for patients managing anemia related to chronic kidney disease (CKD), chemotherapy, or other causes. At our Miami location, we provide personalized care, private suites, and flexible scheduling to support ongoing treatment needs.

What Is Retacrit?

Retacrit® (epoetin alfa-epbx) is a biosimilar to Epogen® and Procrit®, approved by the FDA to treat certain types of anemia. It works by stimulating red blood cell production in the bone marrow through erythropoietin receptor activation.

Retacrit can be administered as an IV or subcutaneous (SubQ) injection, with frequency and dosage tailored to the underlying condition and response to treatment.

Conditions Treated with Retacrit

Retacrit is indicated for patients with anemia due to:

  • Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) – in patients on dialysis and those not on dialysis
  • Chemotherapy – when anemia is caused by myelosuppressive treatment
  • HIV therapy – when caused by zidovudine
  • Surgical blood loss – to reduce the need for transfusions (in select cases)

It is commonly used when hemoglobin levels are low, and symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, or shortness of breath are present.

Retacrit Side Effects

While generally well tolerated, Retacrit may cause:

  • High blood pressure
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Fever
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Injection site reactions
  • Rare but serious risks: blood clots, stroke, or tumor progression (in cancer patients)

At Clearwell, patients are monitored closely during treatment to ensure safe and effective administration under ACHC-accredited protocols.
