What Is Cosentyx?

Cosentyx® (secukinumab) is an FDA-approved biologic therapy that targets interleukin-17A (IL-17A), a protein that plays a central role in inflammatory conditions like psoriasis and arthritis. By blocking IL-17A, Cosentyx helps reduce inflammation, improve skin clearance, and relieve joint pain and stiffness.

Cosentyx is typically administered as a subcutaneous injection, with a loading phase followed by maintenance dosing — usually once every 4 weeks.

Conditions Treated with Cosentyx

Cosentyx is approved to treat:

• Moderate to severe Plaque Psoriasis
• Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA)
• Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS)
• Non-radiographic Axial Spondyloarthritis (nr-AxSpA)
• Moderate to severe Pediatric Plaque Psoriasis (age 6+)

Cosentyx is often prescribed when patients have not responded to traditional therapies or need long-term inflammation control.

Cosentyx Side Effects

Like all biologic therapies, Cosentyx may cause side effects.

Common side effects:

• Upper respiratory infections
• Cold symptoms (stuffy nose, sore throat)
• Diarrhea
• Headache
• Injection site reactions (redness, pain, itching)
• Increased risk of infections, including tuberculosis

All patients should be screened for infections before starting therapy.
