What Is Octagam?

Octagam® is a 10% intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) therapy made from purified human plasma. It contains a broad spectrum of IgG antibodies and is used to either replace missing antibodies in people with immunodeficiencies or modulate immune activity in autoimmune or inflammatory diseases.

Octagam is administered by IV infusion and is FDA-approved for several conditions requiring immunoglobulin therapy.

Conditions Treated with Octagam

Octagam is indicated for:

• Primary Humoral Immunodeficiency (PI) – replacing missing antibodies to reduce the risk of infections
• Chronic Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) – helping to raise platelet counts
• Multifocal Motor Neuropathy (MMN) and other neuromuscular conditions (off-label use in some cases)

Your provider may also prescribe Octagam off-label for other immune-related conditions based on clinical need.

Octagam Side Effects

Octagam is generally well tolerated, but potential side effects include:

• Headache
• Fever or chills
• Fatigue
• Nausea
• Mild infusion reactions (flushing, rash, back pain)
• Rare but serious risks: blood clots, kidney dysfunction, and aseptic meningitis
