Benlysta® (Belimumab) IV Infusion Therapy
Specialized Treatment for Lupus and Autoimmune Disease
Clearwell Infusion Centers offers safe, comfortable, and efficient administration of Benlysta (belimumab) for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and lupus nephritis. As a trusted infusion center in Miami, we provide private suites, flexible scheduling, and a supportive, patient-focused experience.
What Is Benlysta?
Benlysta® (belimumab) is an FDA-approved biologic medication used to treat systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and lupus nephritis. It is a monoclonal antibody that targets and blocks the B-lymphocyte stimulator (BLyS), a protein that plays a central role in autoimmune activity. By lowering abnormal B-cell activity, Benlysta helps reduce flares, improve symptoms, and slow disease progression.
Benlysta is available as both a subcutaneous injection and intravenous (IV) infusion. At Clearwell, we administer the IV formulation, typically every 4 weeks after initial loading doses.
Conditions Treated with Benlysta
Benlysta is approved for use in patients with:
- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
- Lupus Nephritis (in combination with standard therapy)
Benlysta is generally prescribed for patients who continue to experience disease activity despite other lupus treatments.
Benlysta Side Effects
As with any biologic therapy, Benlysta may cause side effects.
Common side effects:
- Nausea or diarrhea
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Insomnia
- Fever
- Depression or mood changes
- Infusion-related reactions (chills, rash, itching, shortness of breath)
Our clinical team will monitor for any side effects and communicate with your referring provider to ensure a safe and effective treatment experience.
