Lemtrada® (Alemtuzumab) IV Infusion Therapy

Disease-Modifying Therapy for Relapsing Multiple Sclerosis

Clearwell Infusion Centers offers expert administration of Lemtrada (alemtuzumab) for adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). Our Miami center provides private infusion suites, personalized care, and full clinical coordination for patients undergoing this high-impact disease-modifying therapy.

What Is Lemtrada?

Lemtrada® (alemtuzumab) is an FDA-approved monoclonal antibody indicated for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (RMS) in adults who have had an inadequate response to two or more MS therapies.

It works by targeting and depleting CD52-positive immune cells, which are believed to play a role in the inflammation and nerve damage seen in MS. The result is a long-term reduction in disease activity and relapses.

Lemtrada is administered as an IV infusion over five consecutive days for the first course, followed by a second course of three infusions one year later. No continuous infusions are required after that, though long-term monitoring is essential.

Who Is Lemtrada For?

Lemtrada is intended for adult patients with:

  • Relapsing forms of MS
  • Inadequate response to two or more prior MS medications
  • No history of autoimmune kidney disease or serious heart or infection risks

Due to its safety profile, Lemtrada is reserved for individuals whose MS is active and not well controlled with other therapies.

Lemtrada Side Effects

Because Lemtrada affects the immune system, it carries a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) and requires ongoing lab monitoring for at least 48 months after the last dose.

Common side effects include:

  • Rash
  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Nausea
  • Infusion-related reactions (up to 90% of patients)

Serious risks include autoimmune conditions (e.g., thyroid disorders, kidney issues), infections, and increased risk of some cancers. Premedication and post-infusion observation protocols are strictly followed.
