InFed® (Iron Dextran) IV Infusion Therapy

Intravenous Iron Replacement for Iron Deficiency Anemia

Clearwell Infusion Centers offers safe, efficient administration of InFed (iron dextran) for patients with iron deficiency anemia who cannot tolerate or do not respond to oral iron. As a leading infusion center in Miami, we provide private suites, flexible scheduling, and compassionate, patient-centered care for those with chronic or complex health needs.

What Is InFed?

InFed® (iron dextran) is an FDA-approved intravenous iron replacement therapy used to treat iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in adult patients, especially those who are unable to use oral iron or require rapid iron repletion.

InFed is administered as an IV infusion or injection, typically in a monitored outpatient setting. It may be given as a test dose followed by full treatment over several sessions or as a total dose infusion, depending on clinical judgment and patient response.

Conditions Treated with InFed

InFed is indicated for:

  • Iron Deficiency Anemia in patients who:
    • Cannot tolerate or absorb oral iron
    • Have chronic blood loss or nutritional deficiencies
    • Require rapid iron repletion before surgery or treatment

It is commonly used in patients with chronic kidney disease, post-bariatric surgery, gastrointestinal disorders, or anemia of chronic disease.

InFed Side Effects

InFed is generally well tolerated, but like all IV iron therapies, side effects can occur. Common side effects include:

  • Injection site reactions
  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Flushing
  • Nausea
  • Mild hypotension during infusion

Rare but serious risks include anaphylactic reactions, which is why InFed is administered under close clinical supervision with a test dose. For a full list of side effects and safety information, visit the InFed website or consult the prescribing guide.
